Meet Mr. Jason Zhao

Building Brilliant Minds With Miss Marissa LLC is excited to announce a new upper-grade math and science tutor.

“Hi everyone! I’m currently a fourth-year undergraduate at Purdue University studying industrial engineering with minors in computer science and psychology.

My background in teaching began with running enrichment activities for babies and toddlers at my local church. A couple years later, I started tutoring at my high school’s math resource center, providing free assistance to fellow students in subjects such as Algebra 1/2, Geometry, Precalculus, and BC calculus during my free periods.

As my passion for teaching grew, I joined a club that tutored underprivileged elementary schoolers in the Greater Chicago area, which I eventually rose to become the Vice President of. Most recently, I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for a calculus 1 course at Purdue, which gave me further insight on how to structure courses and learning plans for over 50 students.

Aside from my teaching experience, I believe it’s my personal experience as a high-achieving student that allows me to connect with the students I worked with. For much of my time in school, I was a pretty talented student who barely put any effort into studying and still excelled in my courses. However, this changed my freshman year when my classes became more difficult, and I was forced to learn proper study habits and learning strategies to continue accomplishing my goals. This shift in approach has allowed me to win writing competitions, drastically improve my academic performance since my “aha year”, make me time for myself outside of school, and earn admission to schools like Emory, USC, UCLA, Berkeley, and Purdue where I currently study on a full-tuition scholarship.

More importantly, being a student who has had to learn to really push myself, I am able to sympathize with other students who are in need and help them achieve their own goals!”

Mr. Jason is available for online or in-person tutoring.
